Equipment
While I am a firm believer that a good photographer can take a good picture with any kind of camera, it does help to have some good dependable gear. Over the years I have owned several cameras and no end of lenses and accessories. When I got back into photography I had to start from scratch from an equipment perspective. When it came down to it, I chose my equipment based on the feel of the camera in my hands. The weight, balance and the quality of the construction. As a result, I shoot 100% Nikon Cameras and Nikkor Lenses.
Cameras are like anything. There is a holy war between photographers as to what is better and what takes superior images. Truth is, from a quality, feature and reliability stand point most of the Pro DSLR’s are excellent tools. I get asked all the time what people should buy or use. In the end, it all comes down to the feel. I chose Nikon because they feel good in my hands. I can find the controls easy and I can literally change lenses and manipulate the camera blindfolded. In the end, the equipment is just a tool. The magic lies in the artistry of the individual using it, not the tool itself. Below is a list of my equipment, hardware and software.
